Imphal, February 05 2014:
The three-day 37th Indian Folklore Congress and national Seminar got underway from today at Manipur University with the inauguration programme graced by Manipur Pollution Control Board Chairman MLA Dr Ng Bijoy as the chief guest held at the MU Court Hall.
Stating that Manipur is blessed with rich cultural and customary heritage along with abundant folk-lores/folktales, Dr Bijoy, also the former MU Vice Chancellor, exuded confidence that hosting more such seminar/workshop would be helpful in preserving as well as promoting Manipur's folk-lores.
Noting that documentation on Manipur's folk-lores would enable others to understand cultural and customary practices of Manipur, he called upon the scholars/resource persons for in-depth deliberation on the seminar theme.
The inaugural programme presided over by the MU Vice Chancellor in-charge Prof L Tombi was also attended by Director (Art & Culture) Dr K sobita devi, organising Committee secretary Prof M Mani Meitei and Indian Folklore Congress treasurer Prof S Sanatombi devi.
