Chandel meet opposes land acquisition move

Chandel, February 05 2014:
A one-day Public Consultative Meet organised by Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee at Khukarthil Village Community Hall in Chandel District today has strongly opposed to the move of the State Government to acquire 600 acres of land near Pallel for development of an Integrated cum Multi Facilities Logistic Hub under the Commerce and Industry Department.
During the consultative meet presided over by Ws.
Kanral, Convenor of Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee (CDNKJC), various issues ranging from "the state government policy to acquire 600 acres near Pallel for development of Integrated cum Multi Facities Logistic hub, transfer of Land Revenue from Thoubal District, MoU signed between the State Government and Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee pertaining to shifting of KYKL (MDF) surrenderees from the District" were discussed among others.
After a through deliberation, the meet adopted a consensus declaration to strongly oppose the move to acquire 600 acres of land under Village Nos.50, 51, 52 near Pallel for development of Integrated cum Multi Facilities Logistic Hub under the Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Manipur as it would affect many Villages including villages of minority tribes in the District.
The other declarations adopted during the consultative meet included transfer of all revenue land record from Thoubal District to Chandel District, to implement the MoU signed between the State Government and Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee pertaining to shifting of KYKL (MDF) Surrenderees from the District at the earliest and to oppose the State Cabinet decision to construct Khunutabi Police Station within the area of Laiching Minou of Chandel District.
In the event of not getting any positive response from the side of the Government over these demands, the Consultative Meet which was attended by many Village Chiefs, Social Workers, Intellectuals, Tribe leaders and representatives of Kuki Peoples Forum, All Tribal Chiefs Grievances Forum, NGOs, Students Unions, Chiefs Associations and women organisations of all tribes in District, further resolved to impose a 48-hour Chandel District Total Bandh with effect from midnight of 27 February.
