Imphal, February 05 2014:
Amid report about the United naga Council (UNC) volunteers embarking on a publicity campaign in Senapati district headquarters to welcome Government delegates for tomorrow's meeting on its demand for 'Alternative Arrangement', the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today deliberated on the Government's stand to be highlighted at the meeting.
Ahead of the meeting between the State and Central Governments and the UNC, on the latter's demand for 'Alternative Arrangement' outside the Government of Manipur pending solution to the Naga issue, the CLP is informed to have discussed the Government strategy to be adopted at the meeting.
According to an informed source, the CLP meeting presided over by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh endorsed Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam to lead the State Government delegation also comprising of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa, Hill Areas Committee Chairman Dr Chaltonlien Amo, Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga and Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu.
Perceiving that the UNC representatives at the seventh round of the meeting tomorrow might insist on 'political demands', which is beyond the prerogative of the State Government, the CLP session suggested that the Government delegation neither raise objection nor give any consent on the issue.
The three-member Central Government team headed by Shambhu Singh, the Joint Secretary in the Union Home Ministry and the North East in-charge, is said to be arriving for the meeting, scheduled to commence from 11 am, in a military chopper directly from Guwahati.
On the other hand, a 10-member UNC team would be led by its president L Adani.
Ahead of the crucial meeting, UNC volunteers using public address system have reportedly been carrying out publicity campaign in Senapati district headquarters urging the people to accord warm welcome to the Central and State Government delegates.
Meanwhile, other issues that figured prominently and consequently endorsed by the CLP members include issuing directives to the Deputy Commissioners and Sub Divisional Officers concerned for expediting implementation of the National Food Security Act through finalisation of the list of beneficiaries at the earliest.
Further the meeting decided to asked officials concerned for early completion of the bio-metric enrolment exercise.
