Sit-in staged to demand justice

Imphal, February 05 2014:
Demanding justice in connection with the crimes committed against women and children in Manipur and also to solidarity against racial discrimination towards people of Northeast origin in metropolitan cities of the country particularly, the National capital, New Delhi, a sit in protest demonstration was staged at Palace Compound here today.
The protest demonstration which was organised by Women Action for Development (WAD) and its its allied NGOs, CBOs, POs, and survivors' groups also demanded immediate arrest of Farida's husband Hafiz Shiraj of Santhel, Mayang Imphal and to investigate & arrest the culprits of the lengthy list of the various cases of rape, killing/murders, rape & murder, missing, assaults, etc, taking part place in Manipur at the earliest possible.
It may be noted here that since the start of 2014, as many as 7 cases of murder, 6 cases of rape, 7 cases of assaults, 2 cases of alleged suicide and 8 cases of missing have been reported in the State so far.
After the protest demonstration, a memorandum signed by WAD Secretary Sobita Mangsatabam has also been forwarded to the Prime Minister of India drawing his attention for immediate intervention for ensuring protection and security of the people of Northeast origin in the National capital.
