Despite the dipping mercury and the long drawn out festivities of Christmas and New Year, Tungjoy village in Senapati district today came alive with another festival, Glory Day.
The festival which will continue till tomorrow, has been an annual event for Tungjoy every January 4.IFCD, Hills and TD and Transport Minister Phungzathang Tonsing graced the function as the chief guest while MLA from Phungyar AC Wungnaoshang Keishing presided.
RK Theko, MLA from Mao AC was the chief host of today's function.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Phungzathang Tonsing informed the gathering that with the coming of the new financial year, the SPF Govt may be in a position to regularly pay the salaries and pensions of the employees.
Amid loud cheers, the TD Minister assured the gathering that he will consult with the local MLA to see what developmental projects can be taken up for the people of Tungjoy.
To match the spirit of the festival, the TD Minister donated a sum of Rs 50 thousand along with 10 pieces of blankets, volley ball and football with their nets as well to the organising committee.
Chief host of today's function, RK Theko also donated a sum of Rs 50 thousand.
Prior to the formal start of the function, the Tungjoy Village Authority Council submitted a memorandum to the TD Minister containing a number of points.
The memorandum drew the attention of the Minister to the immediate need to construct an indoor stadium, a village platform to meet the requirements of different organisations such as the Village Council, women society, student organisation etc, extension of the local play ground, construction of inter village road from Tungjoy to Thrathro, construction of an approach road from Tungjoy to Barak river and construction of a village ring road.
