The directorate of food and Civil Supplies Employees Union, Manipur has launched a three days pen down strike as well as sit in protest with effect from Jan 3 against the shooting of two district supply officers of Imphal west and Imphal west by unidentified youths on December 31 last without giving any reason.
As part of the agitation, more than 300 employees are on a sit in protest during office hours at the premises of the FCS Department Sangaiporou, Imphal.
The protest will continue till Jan 5.In this connection, RK Gopendro general secy, Directorate of Food and Civil Supplies Employees Union Manipur told media persons that the shooting of two DSOs Sarungbam Saratkumar and RK Binoy is viewed very seriously and an emergency general body meeting was held on Jan 3 in the directorate head quarters to discuss the matter.
The Union decided to launch three days pen down strike with effect from Jan 3.The union has today submitted of demands to the Chief Minister O Ibobi and FCS minister Ngamthang Haokip.
The union condemned the shooting of the two DSOs of Imphal east and west in the legs by PREPAK on Dec 31 last.
The union wanted to know as to why they were punished.
The charter of demands included four points.
It said the root cause for failure of public distribution system is due to the system of appointment of contractors for transportation of foodgrains and other essential commodities to the principal distribution centres and sub centres.
These contractors are not functioning as per rules and they divert the food grains to traders and hoarders.
The Union demanded to abolish the present contract system for transportation of food grains and other essential commodities to PDCs and PDSCs.
It suggested that the transportation should be done by the departmental trucks using escorts upto the centres.
It also demanded security at the headquarter.
Kerosene is not available in the state and it demanded that the present quota system should be abolished or amended.
It suggested an alternative distribution system under PDS terms.
It also suggested mobile stationery sale of SK oil.
