Imphal, January 04:
Refuting the reports which appeared in the State dailies on January 3 detailing the hardships faced by the villagers of CCpur district following the counter insurgency operations launched there, the army authority has clarified that the allegations raised against the security force are false and a malicious design to malign the image of the security force.
In a statement, PIB Defence Wing, quoting army authority, said that the news reports were published to derail the growing co-operation between the local people and the security force who have been pressed into service to restore normalcy in the interiors.
The control measures taken up by the security personnel are basically to cut off the supply chain of the militants in the interiors, said the statement adding that efforts have been taken up in co-operation with the district administration to ensure that the villagers are not exposed to any hardships.
Towards this end, camps have been organised to distribute ration and essential commodities to the people, added the statement.
In view of the festival season, the security force organised sale of ration items in the interiors and added that a proposal for establishing a number of shops under the Public Distribution System is being looked into.
Civilians assisting the security force are duly compensated for their labour, added the statement.
The Army authority further claimed that it has taken up a number of welfare measures for the villagers including water supply scheme at Tuila-phai, extension of football grounds, training of local youth for recruitment rally and medical assistance including free medicines.
