District and Session Judge, Manipur East has completed its trial in connection with the enforced disappearance of school boy Khundrakpam Boyai of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, said a reliable resource.
The trial was conducted following a ruling of a Division Bench of Gauhati High Court on May 19, 1999.This followed a habeas corpus filed by Kh Ibetombi Devi, the mother of the disappeared school boy.
Boyai along with another youth identified as M Churchill were arrested by Army personnel belonging to 317 Field regiment from Jiribam area in the evening of September 24, 1998, said the petition.
Churchill was released the next day, but Boyai was neither set free nor handed over to the civil police, the petition added.
Case dossiers said while Churchill was in the custody of the Army, he heard Boyai crying and saw him being interrogated by some Army officers.
The affidavit in-opposition of the Army admitted that Churchill was picked up and later released.
However, it said that the Army personnel never picked up Boyai.
