With the next academic session scheduled to start from February, anxious parents and guardians have already started thronging the various book stalls in Imphal to inquire about the availability of text books for Class 6 to 8 though till date not a single text book has hit the book shelves.
The responsibility of bringing out the new text books for the classes mentioned have been taken by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and already the air is thick with uncertainty over whether parents and guardians will face the earlier problem of non availability of text books.
When The Sangai Express contacted the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur today, an official informed that publication work of almost all the text books have been completed.
However intense review work of the completed text books is underway, added the officer.
The Board is working over time to ensure that the text books reach the book stalls on time this year, informed the officer and added that the exact status may be known in a few days time.
The officer refused to go into the details of the work progress explaining that the picture will become clear in a couple of days time.
There is however no problems for class 1 to 6 as the old text books will be used for the next academic session.
Since the introduction of the new syllabus for all schools under the BSEM, students and their parents have been facing a harrowing time at the beginning of each academic year, due to the failure to make the text books available to the students on time.
