CEO orders arrest of ZP Member

Chief Electoral Officer PC Lawmkunga has directed the District Election Officer, Imphal East and the SP Imphal East to arrest Laipham Khunou Zilla Parishad Member Takhelmayum Nandababu of Kairang Maning Leikai and seize his licensed gun for opening fire at a public gathering.
Nandababu was arrested today at about 9 pm by Heingang police.
Based on media reports, the CEO directed the DEO and the SP to arrest Nandababu and also to seize his licensed gun for opening fire at the venue of a grand feast.
Nandababu fired several rounds of shots at the gate of Khaidem Khoimu in whose house local womenfolk were having a grand feast on the occasion of New Year's Day.
According to information received from District Election Office, Imphal East, police started looking for Nandababu after the arrest order was issued.
Meanwhile, a meeting has been scheduled on January 5 at Imphal between Chief Election Commissioner Dr SY Quraishi and officials of Assam Government, Nagaland Government and Mizoram Government so as to solicit these neighbouring States for their cooperation towards making elections free, fair and peaceful.

The meeting would be attended by Chief Secretaries, DGPs and CEOs of the three States.
Law and order and cross-border movement of vehicles would also figure at the meeting.
It is reported that the Chief Secretary would hold a meeting with IOC officials and CRPF officers tomorrow and discuss about transportation and stocking adequate quantity of fuel ahead of the election.
