Imphal, January 03 2012:
Even though the BJP is not in the People's Democratic Front (PDF) alliance, the party will have a friendly fight with MPP in some Assembly Constituencies of the state in the ensuring Assembly elections, Vice President of BJP Manipur Pradesh Prof S Tikendra has exclaimed.
In an exclusive interview with Hueiyen Lanpao, Prof S Tikendra said that since the Central Committee of MPP has decided that it will be a partner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Centre, the BJP which is leading NDA decided to form a pre-poll alliance with MPP.
Just like MPP, the main objective of BJP is to defeat the Congress.
So, it would ne natural for the two parties to field candidates in some constituencies and have a friendly fight.
This is a special strategy taken up by both the parties in connection with the coming Assembly elections and it is in tune with common objective of the two parties, Prof Tikendra observed, adding that even though MPP is a constituent unit of PDF alliance, the alliance with BJP is like an alliance within an alliance.
He further stated that there is an understanding between BJP and MPP not to field candidates where the other parties feel it would be best to field only one candidate.
If the need arises both the parties will sit together and discuss the issues.
Disclosing that BJP will be fielding candidates in 25 Assembly Constituencies of the state, Prof Tikendrajit informed that BJP, Manipur State Unit, President, Shantikumar Sharma has left for Delhi today along with the list of its intending candidates.
The list of the candidates will be finalized by the Central Election Committee's meeting which will be held tomorrow in Delhi and Shantikumar Sharma will be returning to Imphal along with the final list tomorrow evening and it will be made public by January 5, he added.
Expressing confidence of forming a new government after the election, Prof Tikendra said that BJP will form the next government with any other party except the Congress.
