DESAM celebrates 10th foundation day

Presentation of Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba Award to seven individuals for their contribution in the field of education marked the 10th foundation day celebration of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) at Johnstone Higher Secondary School today.
The seven honoured on the occasion included A Maipakpi of sekmai Khunou Kangjeibung Primary School, M Brajakanta of Jiri Kasturba Girls Junior High School, T Padamshiya of Wangjing High School, L Tarubi of Lairenjam Girls LP School, Ksh Manihar of Kakching Khunyai Leikai Primary School, L Oken of Bhuba High School (Kairenphabi) and Ch Ruhikanta of Thambalkhong Junior High School.
Presenting the key-note address, DESAM general secretary M Angamba recounted that the student body started functioning from Biramangol College, Sawombung.
Stating that DESAM was formed with the sole objective of promoting quality education in the State, he said a number of awareness campaigns and open discussions had been conducted to seek positive suggestion from a cross section of the society.

While maintaining that DESAM had played a key role in the upgrading of Manipur University to a Central varsity with similar emphasis for improvement of nursing institutes, Angamba accused individuals holding high offices of education for the decline in the education sector.
Manipur University's College Development Council Director Prof RK Ranjan, who also addressed the gathering suggested that development of the education sector in Manipur could be achieved only through cohesion and concerted campaigns by the student organisations.
Acknowledging contribution by DESAM for the uplifting of education in the 10 year of its existence, Prof Ranjan reminded that DESAM should continue to contribute its mite on promoting quality education in Manipur.
DESAM president LC Santosh, former president K Chinglenkhomba Meetei, advisor PC Newton and advocate Dr Chongtham Narendra Singh also spoke on the occasion.
