A large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and imported foreign liquor seized by Excise personnel from a Thangal Bazar vendor was disposed off today after setting them ablaze.
The IMFLs were seized by the special enforcement team of Excise Department on December 30 from a shop owned by one Chandu.
Notably, the special enforcement team was set up in accordance to an instruction of the Election Commission of India.
Along with 42 cases and 9 bottles of liquor including costly imported foreign liquor brands, one salesman namely Rajesh was also pulled up.
It is estimated that monetary value of the seized liquor would be around Rs three lakhs.
Excise Assistant Commissioner K Joykumar said that investigation was on to find out how the foreign liquors were imported.
All excise check-posts particularly Moreh check-post have been put on high alert.

He informed that altogether 2732 cases of liquor have been disposed off from September last year till date.
During the same period, 6235 litres of country made liquor have also been destroyed.
Saying that the department has learnt about offering liquor as well as hosting parties in luxury hotels, Joykumar noted that IMFLs sold in canteens of army, paramilitary forces and State force have pilfered to civilians.
Joykumar appealed to all concerned to desist from such illegal activities.
Citing the Liquor Prohibition Act 1991, the Excise Assistant Commissioner pointed out that sale or brewing of any kind of liquor is prohibited in the State.
He also sought cooperation of local NGOs towards the efforts to make Manipur free of intoxicating drugs and alcohol.
