Delivering the key note address, General Secretary of DESAM M Angamba observed that DESAM and other student organizations in Manipur have exerting pressures on the government for improving the education system.
However, there has been not much improvement.
Like the system of a computer which has been slowly infected with virus, the education system in Manipur is too experiencing a slow death due to various factors including administrative loopholes, corruption, failure of paying necessary attention to education sector, frequent imposition of bandh, blockade and general strike and shirking away responsibility by the students, teachers and parents, Angamba observed.
Emphasising on the need to rectify all these inherent weaknesses, Angamba observed that corruption could be eliminated only when all the people have access to free and fair education and knowledge.
There is also a mass public movement towards improvement of education system in the state and the government should also be sincere in its efforts, he added.
In his address as Chief Guest of the celebration, Prof RK Ranjan observed that in present Manipuri society, those who can construct buildings overnight and drive cars are being respected.
However, these individuals are not someone who has been born with silver spoon in their mouth.
So, giving respect to such individuals amount to accepting corruption in the society.
In his presidential address, LC Santosh questioned who is going to fight against corruption when so called respected doctors, MCS, IAS officers in the society in indulging in corruption and added that it is only through an effective education system which can bring forth an untainted generation that corruption could be uprooted.
To mark the occasion of its 10th foundation day, a website of DESAM was launched.
The website domain, www.desaminfo.org has a forum for knowledge sharing among the people besides other features like People's Voice, our movement, societies, whats on, photogallery, etc.
