Now, hostel blocks adorn CIPET

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar jointly inaugurated the academic and hostel blocks of Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Takyel today.
The inauguration function was organised by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.
Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals Secretary K Chaudhary and Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga attended the inaugural function.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister O Ibobi asserted that 820 trainees under CIPET have benefited from the different job oriented and industry specific academic programmes conducted by the institute.
Besides these, various other vocational skill development and entrepreneurship development programmes have also been conducted sponsored by various Ministries, Central and State Government Departments.
About 2100 unemployed/underemployed youths have been trained through these programmes, the CM stated.
CIPET has been functioning since 1987 imparting training to youth of Manipur and other North Eastern States.
The centre, at present, offers 4 different skill development courses namely Diploma in Plastics Technology, Plastics Mould Technology, Plastics Mould Design with CAD/CAM and Plastic Processing and Testing approved by the AICTE.
Placements for students who have completed these courses are also arranged by the centre.
The centre also conducts technology based Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP) opening self-employment opportunities particularly for the educated unemployed youth of the State.
At present, the centre has students from all the States of the North East and Orissa, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
The most disturbing issue of the State is unemployment, the CM stated.
However, since the State cannot provide Government jobs to every unemployed youth, the best possible way out of the issue is to self-employ oneself by taking part and utilising the trainings and placement benefits offered by the centre.
The Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Ananth Kumar who is on an official visit to the State said development would come on its own if there is peace and harmony in the society.
The Central Government is committed to promote peace, harmony and development across the country including the North Eastern region.
The Minister communicated the Centre's design to expand CIPET, Imphal centre.
A total of Rs 14 crore would be sanctioned for the project out of which 9 crores would be utilised in the construction of 350 bedded hostels for boys and girls.
The remaining amount, the Minister added, would be used for machinery expansion for the centre.
About 10 million tonnes of plastic are consumed every year in the Country.
The demand is expected to double in the next 5 - 10 years as its need in agriculture, health care, automobile and irrigation sector increases.
As such, there arises a need to produce more plastic engineers in the coming years, Ananth Kumar stated.
The Minister laid foundation the stone for a plastic park at Madhya Pradesh recently.
When completed, the park is expected to provide employment opportunities to 1.5 lakh people of the State.
The Minister invited State CM and Industry Minister to draft a proposal to the Prime Minister for setting up a similar plastic park in the State.
