With the congregation of around 1000 people of Paomai tribe from Nagaland, Manipur and Assam, Siimai Tyahrii Nii (Saranamei Kindred Festival) kick started at Saranamei village of Senapati district yesterday.
The three-day event was declared open with much fanfare in the presence of President of Tenyimi People's Organisation (Nagaland, Manipur and Assam ), ZM Sekhose as guest of honour and various other dignitaries.
Unveiling of monolith, inauguration of memorial hall and presentation of cultural and folk items by different troupes coming from different Paomai villages were the main attractions of the first day.
A festival souvenir was also released to mark the occasion.
Saranamei Village Council submitted a memorandum to the Government through the visiting dignitaries demanding upgradation of village UJB school to a Junior school, construction of an indoor stadium, Council office and library in the village.
The concerned authority declared that the village UJB school would be upgraded to Junior school level by February next year.
Later at night, traditional entertaining items and programmes presented by women married to outside Saranamei village kept the gathering in festive mood.
Earlier, Siimaii Heritage House was inaugurated by ADC Chairman of Senapati district, Henry Hiily in the presence of ADC Member RP Danii as a part of the festival.
