Rich cultural heritage of the NE states display at Shillong Raj Bhavan

Different cultural programmes displaying the rich cultural heritage of the North Eastern states was held at Dorbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Shillong mesmerizing foreign students from nine countries of the world on their visit to Shillong on Thursday.
Altogether thirty one students are visiting Shillong as part of the winter camp organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
The students hail from Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Nigeria, Iran, Kenya and Bulgaria.
While welcoming the students, Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary while speaking on the occasion, underlined the uniqueness of India's cultural heritage.
He said, "India is a land of sages and saints and the people believed in unity with diversity" .
Informing the students about the diverse cultures and language that the country has, the Governor also stressed on the uniqueness of North East saying, "North East is even more diverse.
It has unique cultures and languages which are different from one state to another, but people lived in harmony and share a common bond, that is, they work together" .
International Student Advisor of NEHU, Prof Sharan in his speech informed that the North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) has admitted around 14 foreign students from across the globe in the University.
These students will undergo doctoral research, he added.
Meanwhile, N Munish Singh Regional Head, ICCR Shillong in his introductory speech highlighted on the activities taken up by the ICCR saying that ICCR is a body which mainly provides scholarships to students from almost 80 countries around the world bringing in Scholars to study in the different universities India including North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) .
During their visit to the state the students, who study in different universities in India, would also visit the North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) on December 31 besides Cherrapunjee.
Others who spoke on the occasion included a foreign student from Afghanistan, Kochar.
Later as part of the programme, the Governor also felicitates the Artiste group leaders.
