Guwahati, December 30 2010:
Jailed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa is likely to walk to freedom from Friday.
The TADA court in Guwahati on Thursday has granted bail to the ULFA chairman.
With today's development a ray of hope for an early commencement of the peace process between the ULFA and the Government brightened.
Mentionably, Rajkhowa would be granted bail became inevitable after the Assam government had decided not to oppose the ULFA chief's bail petition.
It can also be noted that ULFA chairman Rajkhowa has been languishing at the Central Jail in Guwahati for nearly a year now.
Massive preparations are under way at his hometown Lakhuwa in upper Assam to welcome him.
Last year, Arabinda Rajkhowa was arrested along with the outfit's deputy commander-in-chief Raju Baruah in Bangladesh and handed over to India early this year.
And with the peace process drawing near, one expects that two other jailed leaders of the Ulfa Chitraban Hazarika and Sasha Chowdhury would be freed soon.
Separate bail petitions for their release have been already moved.
Earlier, the court granted bail to ULFA vice chairman Pradip Gogoi, its publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary, cultural secretary Pranati Deka, political ideologue Bhimkanta Buragohain besides Raju Baruah.
They are now drumming up support for the peace talks.
However, ULFA military chief Paresh Barua continues to remain elusive.
The Tarun Gogoi government decision not to oppose bail petitions in all the cases is seen as a strategic move given that assembly elections in the state are barely a few months away.
