Imphal, December 30 2010:
MLA O Joy of MPP has declared that no candidates of the ruling Congress party are sure shot winners in the upcoming local bodies election from Lilong Nagar Panchayat of Imphal West.
At the most, just by chance one lucky Congress candidate may win in the election, that also by the narrowest margin, the firebrand Opposition MLA said in response to the charges of Congress leader.
On the occasion of 125th anniversary celebration of Indian National Congress on December 28, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had charged that regional parties and those based on religion have not been able to put up even five candidates in the local bodies election.
Spokesperson of the SPF Government N Biren had also charged that MPP has not been able to expand its influence beyond Imphal city.
In response to these charges, MLA O Joy who attended the function of hoisting the flag of MPP in connection with the upcoming local bodies election at Langthabal Kunja Awang as well as the inauguration of a newly constructed building of Koubru Loya Lakpa at Narankonjil yesterday as chief guest, declared that mist Congress candidates would be defeated in the election from Lilong Nagar Panchayat.
If luck favours, just one Congress candidate may win.
Let the public think over what would be the fate of Congress party in the Assembly election if the political strategy of MPP succeeds, Joy added.
Joy went on to say that the election of the local bodies which is to be conducted under the Manipur Public Participation Act is a very important election.
So, the public should not take this election very light.
Joy said that he would also give an appropriate reply to the allegation of what the MLA of Langthabal Assembly Constituency has done for the development of this constituency at an opportune time.
Informing the gathering that steps have been taken up for setting up a ecological park to be named after Koubru Loya Lakpa along the foothills of Heibong Ching, Joy said that such a park would encourage the people to come to Langthabal.
With completion of dredging Leishang Hiden, construction of road on either sides would commence soon and dredging of Chandranadi would continue to lead the water flow again.
Yesterday's function was also attended by former Union Minister Th Chaoba and MLA RK Anand.
