Imphal, December 30 2010:
Review of past history is very important in a developed society.
Societies which do not review past histories will never succeed, said Ngangbam Nongyai, former member, Manipur Human Rights Commission on the occasion of the "4th Chinga Session memorial observation function" which was held on December 29 .
The observation function was organized by the Hijam Irabot Memorial Public School at MDU Hall, Yaiskul, Imphal.
A prize distribution ceremony of the school's annual literary and sports meet 2010 was also held as part of the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Nongyai recalled the Chinga Session held on December 29 and 30, 1938 under the leadership of Hijam Irabot has become a very important part of Manipur's history.
Irabot stood for the suppressed people of Manipur against the then king of Manipur and British Empire.
Today's generation should study the life of such leaders and follow in their path for a peaceful and developed state.
He stressed the need of inserting a lesson on the life of Irabot in the textbooks of the state.
Nongyai also stressed the need of including Moral Education as a compulsory subject in the school syllabus.
He said that Manipur has more than 6000 Commercial Sex Workers.
New cases of HIV/AIDS are increasing and cases of pick pocketing are also on the rise in the state.
All of these cases surface in a high rate since the people of the state are deprived of proper moral education.
