Imphal, December 30 2010:
Pakshi mini stadium at Dungrei Junction, Hungpung came alive to the multi-colour traditional Tangkhul culture in its full glory on the occasion of second day and night cultural programme, 'Awakening the past culture' on Thursday.
Cultural troupes from every locality of Hungpung presented Tangkhul folk-songs and dances of the purest form at the occasion.
A tradition fashion parade was also organised much to the delight of the gathering.
Organised under the aegis of New Vision, THYSO, Hungpung, the event was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing as chief guest and former president of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Stephen Angkang as guest of honour.
Addressing the full-capacity Pakshi mini stadium, Rishang Keishing called upon the Tangkhuls , specially the youngsters to understand and respect the rich and loyal cultural heritage of their forefathers.
It is only through proper understanding of the rich cultural heritage of our forefathers that Tangkhul community could prosper culturally and politically, he said, adding that people respect us because of our culture and tradition.
Just as what the Meities have been doing with Mera Houchongba and Kukis with Kut festival, Tangkhul should also promote their cultural and tradition for the world to take notice, he suggested, adding that peace and harmony can also be brought about through cultural exchange.
Stressing on the need for preservation of cultural elements of Tangkhul for the generations to come, the MP also assured every possible assistance from his side in this regard.
In his address, Stephen Angkang congratulated the organiser for their efforts towards promotion of Tangkhul culture.
However, he strongly felt that Tangkhul people and cultural troupes from other parts should also be invited to participate in the event instead of just confining to Hungpung alone.
