An unidentified armed person has reportedly looted gold ornaments and other valuables worth around Rs 1 lakh at gun point from the librarian of State Central Library.
The incident occurred at around 11.30 am today inside the office room of the librarian identified as Elangbam Nandakishore (56).The office is located within the complex of State Central Library at Keishampat here.
The armed looter reportedly identified himself as a cadre of one UG group when he entered the office room of the Librarian.
Pointing a gun at Librarian Nandakishore and threatening him by placing a hand grenade on the table, the armed person first bound the hands of the librarian and blindfolded him.
A plaster was also put around the mouth of the librarian to prevent him from alerting other staff in the office.
After that, the armed intruder removed one gold chain from the neck and one gold ring from the finger of Nandakishore apart from snatching his mobile phone hand set.
Total monetary value of the looted items is claimed to be worth around Rs I lakh.
In connection with the incident, Nandakishore disclosed that the same armed looter had come to his office around a week back.
In the last visit too, the armed intruder identified himself as a UG cadre and requested for arranging one vehicle and some money saying that three of them had come together in a vehicle but it broke down on the way.
To that, Nandakishore had replied that he was hapless and the armed intruder left.
When the armed intruder came for the second time today, he told Nandakishore that his two other associates have been arrested by the security forces and charged Nandakishore of contacting the security forces to effect the arrest.
The armed intruder also claimed that he had come with instructions from his 'higher ups' to pick up Nandakishore and kill him and showed the weapons.
After looting the librarian of his valuables, the armed intruder left the office room after bolting it from outside.
After the armed looter left, Nandakishore somehow managed to drag himself upto the door and alerted other staff of the office.
