Imphal, August 29 2011:
A 13-year old girl student from Manipur studying in Satya Narayan Academy, Ramkrishna Nagar Bangpur, West Bengal reportedly passed away due to alleged negligence of the school authority.
Addressing a press conference in this regard here today, Potsangbam Daina asserted that 13-year old Thounaojam Dania d/o Th Birdhaja Singh of Keishamthong Hodam Leikai, who was studying in class IX in Satya Narayan Academy, Ramkrishna Nagar, Bangpur, West Bengal died due to the failure of the school authority in taking her to the hospital for necessary and proper treatment in time.
Daina informed that from the accounts given by Natal (9), a younger sister of Dania studying in the same school, on July 23 last, Dania complained of headache and by July 26, she started having fever.
On August 25, Dania started vomiting.
All these health complications had been brought to the notice of the school authority in time by Natal (9), but the school authority did not pay any serious apart from telling Natal to give some medicines to Dania.
By the time, Dania started vomiting, she had become very weak.
When the family members at Imphal tried to establish contact with the school authority, the telephone line was not working.
But from Natal, the family members could know that the health of Dania had really deteriorated.
However, it was only on August 26 that the school authority contacted the family members at Imphal.
Accordingly, some of the family members left to bring back Dania.
But she had already breathed her last by the time the family members reached there.
According to the information provided by Natal, Dania asked for some water on the night of August 25.After drinking the water, Dania fell asleep never to wake up again.
Diana charged that the school authority took Dania to the hospital only after she was dead and told the family members not to worry as Dania was being taken care of in the ICU.
If the school authority had admitted Dania to the hospital in time or informed the family members on time, she would be still alive by now Daina lamented, while drawing the attention of all concerned to ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not recur in the future.
Daina explained that Dania was her niece, she was like her own daughter.
