Imphal, December 28 2011:
More than 30 days after the car of Professor Amar Yumnam was rammed into by a speeding vehicle near Ghari on the Airport road on November 23, the hit and run case is yet to see the light of day.
Professor Amar Yumnam of the Economics Department and Dean of School of Social Sciences of Manipur University was on his way home at Malom after a consultative meeting with the Deputy High Commissioner of Canada at about 10 pm when his car was rammed from behind by a speeding vehicle.
A select group of persons from Manipur including Chief Secretary DS Poonia were present at the meeting with the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner.
The Professor was rushed to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute and survived the 'accident,' but the case is far from being cracked.
Singjamei police had registered a case in connection with the hit and run 'accident' .

When The Sangai Express approached the police station to inquire about the status of the case, it was learnt that no headway has been made.
A police official in charge of the case informed that they have questioned 4/5 witnesses but nothing concrete could be worked out till date.
Referring to the inputs from some of the witnesses, the police official said that the Professor's car was rammed by a speeding vehicle from behind.
The witnesses reportedly informed that they saw two 'camouflaged' vehicles speeding away in the dark.
They however could not confirm the exact type of the vehicles, with some stating that it was a Bolero while some said it was a Scorpio.
Still some others said that the vehicles resembled Gypsys.
The darkness afforded some cover to the vehicles as they sped away from the scene of the 'accident' .
However the witnesses said that one of the vehicles had a flag post.
The mangled remains of the Maruti 800 car driven by Professor Amar Yumnam (AR 1A 6675) is lying at Singjamei police station, standing as a mute testimony of the impact with which it was rammed by the speeding vehicle from behind.
Amar Yumnam was scheduled to lead an Indian team to a meet of SAARC scholars at Dhaka.
