To avoid any disturbance or interference in the Manipur Legislative Assembly election, Assam Rifles and the Army have been asked to restrict all cadres of Kuki UG groups under SoO pact as well as cadres of NSCN-IM and NSCN-K to their designated camps.
A meeting of the coordination committee was held today with Chief Secretary DS Poonia in the chair this afternoon.
The meeting which was attended by Chief Electoral Officer PC Lawmkunga, Principal Secretaries, Commissioners, Secretaries and top officials of Police, Assam Rifles and Army reviewed the poll preparations, conveyed an official source.
During the meeting, the AR and Army officers were asked to restrict all cadres of Kuki UG groups under SoO pact as well as NSCN-IM and NSCN-K cadres to their designated camps.
The meeting discussed in detail about the logistic support and environmental security that must be provided by security forces.
It also deliberated on communication and transportation for the elections.
It decided to apprise the Election Commission of India about petroleum products and other goods being shipped in to Manipur only on Imphal-Jiribam highway so that necessary arrangements can be made for transportation of goods on ImphalDimapur highway too with adequate security escorts.
It was agreed that stocks of petroleum products can be maintained at healthy levels if the same products are shipped along Imphal-Dimapur highway too.
BSNL officials who took part in the meeting were asked to activate at least 22 Wi-Max towers before the elections in place of the 9 Wi-Max towers which are functional at present.
The Transport Department was entrusted with the task of requisitioning vehicles for use in the Assembly elections.
The department was also asked to requisition 260 vehicles for use by the expenditure monitoring committee on a priority basis.
The meeting decided to repair Khongshang-Tamenglong road at the earliest and the same task was entrusted to PWD.
The meeting discussed about identifying dilapidated school buildings which would be used as polling stations by respective Deputy Commissioners.
Meanwhile, as per an instruction from the ECI to appoint full-time SPs for Imphal West, Imphal East, Churachandpur and Tamenglong, the State Government has submitted a list of 10 police officers eligible to be SP to the Commission today.
