Imphal, December 28 2011:
Close behind the heels of Janata Dal (United) joining the pre-poll alliance of MPP and NCP, formed with the stated objective of defeating the Congress party in the upcoming state Assembly elections, leaders of Rashtriya Janata Dal (United) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) today announced their decision of being a part of the alliance.
Talking to mediapersons at the party office here this afternoon, President in-charge of state unit Rashtriya Janata Dal (United) K Kumarjit informed that along with joining the opposition alliance, the support of the party to the Congress-led Secular Progressive front (SPF) government has also been withdrawn forthwith.
The stand of the state unit has been taken with the approval of the central leaders of the party, he disclosed.
Kumarjit observed that to defeat Congress party in the election and install a non-Congress government in the state, alliance of the opposition parties is essential and RJD(U) would make every possible sacrifices in this regard.
Nonetheless, there are still many finer details that need to be worked out, like roles to be played by each of the constituent units in the alliance and the common candidates to be fielded.
What is important at the moment is the coming together of the opposition parties and a meeting of the alliance would be convened soon to take concrete decision in this regard, Kumarjit said.
On the other hand, Communist Party of India (Marxist), which is an ally of CPI at the centre, would be going separate ways in the state Assembly election this time.
A top leader of CPI (M) has charged CPI with taking decision on its own and always trying to remain in the good book of Congress party.
Meanwhile, talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, a spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh has categorically observed that for defeating Congress party in the election, the door of BJP is always open to the idea of forging alliance with other like-minded political parties and the National leaders of the party have already given their approval.
In connection with formation of alliance, several rounds of meeting have been held between the leaders of BJP state unit and MPP as well as among the National leaders of BJP and NCP.
In all these meetings, it has been decided to fight the election jointly keeping in mind the common issues of the state, the spokesperson disclosed, adding that an official announcement on joining the Opposition alliance would be made in a joint press conference with MPP, NCP and other political parties which are members to the alliance at 3 pm on December 30 .
Some National leaders of BJP would also be coming to Imphal in this connection, the spokesperson added.
According to another source in the party, BJP MP and noted film actress of yesteryears Hema Malini has assured to come to campaign for BJP candidate Indira Oinam who would be contesting against Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in Thoubal Assembly Constituency.
In addition, many prominent leaders of BJP would also be coming to campaign against the Chief Minister.
