Imphal, December 28 2011:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has drawn the attention of Governor of Manipur to the problem of scarcity of petroleum products being faced by the people today even more acutely than during the over 3-month long economic blockade along the National Highways.
In a statement, Vice President of AMSU HQ Md Abdul Haque Shah pointed out that shortage of petroleum products including cooking gas is being felt by the people of the state even more acutely today than during the days of blockades.
Even though blockades have been lifted and transportation of essential commodities resumed along the National Highways, long queue of people can still be seen in front of all oil pumps and normal supply of cooking gas to the people is still a distant dream.
All these problems are due to lack of sincerity on the part IOC and government officials, the student body alleged.
With election code of conduct already in force, the Governor should pay attention to the problem and take up necessary measures to plug the loopholes in the existing distribution system, AMSU demanded.
