Imphal, December 28 2011:
Imphal West Police Commandos today arrested Keisham Ningthemjao (55), a prospective candidate of the ensuing General Election from Andro Assembly Constituency and his companion for illegal possession of a 9 mm pistol near Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Imphal.
According to a police source, Keisham Ningthemjao son of late K Kullabidhu of Yairipok Laimanai along with his companion Md Habibur Rehman alias Mangi (38) son of Md Bashir of Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai were arrested along with an Australian made Steyr 9 mm pistol at around 11.30 am today when they came to the Congress Bhawan to participate in the 126th Foundation Day of Indian National Congress.
Prior to the arrival of the Chief Minister, CID personnel who are checking the participants at the entrance found Ningthemjao carrying the pistol in a bag.
When asked, Ningthemjao told them that it was a licensed gun and then gave the bag to Mangi as the CID personnel told him that he cannot bring the gun inside the venue.
Unaware of the situation, a team of Imphal West Commandos present there rounded up Mangi near the gate of Johnstone Higher Secondary School and seized the pistol when he crossed the BT road hurriedly in a suspicious manner.
There, he told the cammando team that the pistol was given to him by Ningthemjao.
The commandos then arrested Ningthemjao as he failed to produce the license of the pistol.
Upon interrogation, it was found that it was a pistol of one Rajbihari from Thangmeiban Haobam Dewan Leikai.
