Department of Animal Sciences of Central Agriculture University conferred Naorem Lashmon of Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai as the best pig farmer of the year 2008-09 .
A certificate of recognition has been handed over to Lashmon by University Dean Dr N Iboton Singh in a simple function held at the conference hall of the varsity today.
Department of Genetics and Breeding Head Dr JM Laishram and University Dean Dr N Iboton graced the occasion as president and chief guest respectively.
Naorem Lashmon was in the news recently as a pig reared in his pig farm gave birth to 17 piglets at the seventh furrowing.
Speaking in the function, Department of Animal Science Head Dr Dhaneswor said that piggery has now proved to be a lucrative business as the demand of pork is increasing not only in Manipur but also in neighbouring States.
Lauding the efforts of Lashmon, Dean Dr N Iboton while speaking in the function said that he is pleased with the success achieved by a farmer who is being supervised by the Central varsity.
Iboton further announced to gift three more pigs to Lashmon from his side in recognition of the farmer's hard work.
