Imphal, November 09 2009:
The 38th Indo-Myanmar bi-annual liaison meeting is scheduled to be held at Leimakhong tomorrow.
In connection with the meeting, a 15-member Myanmarese delegation led by Brig Gen Tin Maung Ohn arrived in India yesterday.
Other members of the Myanmarese delegation include Brig Ba La Aye and distinguished Army members.
The Indian Army delegation is to be led by Chief of Staff 3 Corps Major General SS Pawar.
Informing this in a statement, a PIB Defence Wing statement said that Indian Army and Myanmarese Army have a special relationship and comradeship which is an example in itself.
The liaison meeting will further strengthen the friendly ties and co-operation between the two countries.
During the meeting, free and cordial exchange of views on matters relating to security of the border areas and measures required to be initiated to control insurgency in both the countries will be discussed.
It would be an endeavour of the two countries to resolve issues of concern of both the Armies, upholding the principles of mutual trust and respect, which the two countries have long cherished, the statement said.
It further observed that insurgent groups on both sides of the International border, however, try and take advantage of the terrain to further their undesirable activities.
This has an adverse impact on the people and society of both the countries.
Through the co-ordinated efforts of the two Armies, we endeavour to put a check on cross border movements of these insurgents and prevent them from undertaking unlawful activities in our respective territories.
We need to continuously synergise our efforts in this direction to eliminate the menace of insurgency from the region, the Army statement said further.
The Myanmarese delegation will also be visiting Headquarters Eastern Command, Kolkata and Bodh Gaya from November 11 to 13 before returning to Myanmar on November 14, the statement informed.
