A spectators gallery of an indoor stadium along with 40 capacity players hostel with other facilities at Takmu Water Sports Complex Sendra was inaugurated and handed over to the Moirang Municipal Council by Major General Shakti Gurung, VSM, general Officer Commanding 57 Mountain Division.
The structures which included cook house, dinning hall and toilet blocks for boys and girls were constructed under the Military Civic Action Project by the 7 Assam Rifles.
The inaugural function was also attended by MLAs, I Hemochandra, T Mangibabu and M Prithivraj.
Speaking on the occasion, Major General Shakti Gurung informed the gathering that security forces are here to protect life and properties of the general people.
The GOC also stressed upon the local populace especially the youth to harness their sports skills as Manipuris by birth are talented thereby leading a better life and contributing towards the overall development of the state, stated of a PIB release.
His speech also highlighted the various projects being undertaken by the unit in its area for the benefit of the people.
Our staff reporter reported that MLA I Hemochandra expressed his believed that more developmental works providing benefits to the people will be taken up by the security set ups.
He also said that to safeguard and protect the facilities provided under the MCA programme is the duty of the local people.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA M Prithivraj of Moirang Assembly constituency recalled the role of his late father in taking up the construction works at the complex under MCA.
The construction materials were provided by the army under MCA programme while locals responsible for labour charges.
He also donated Rs 2 lakh from his local area development funds, he added.
