The 38th Indo-Myanmar Bi-Annual Liaison meeting will be held at Leimakhong tomorrow to discuss matters relating to security of the border areas and measures to control insurgency in both the countries.
Noting that the advantage taken by insurgent groups of terrain on both sides of the International border to further their "undesirable activities" has an adverse impact on the people of both the countries, the two countries are striving to put a check on cross-border movements of insurgents through coordinated efforts of the two Armies.
"Through the coordinated efforts of the two armies, we endeavour to put a check on cross border movements of insurgents and prevent them from taking unlawful activities in our respective territories.
We need to continuously synergise our efforts in this direction to eliminate the menace of insurgency from the region," stated a PIB (DW) release issued today.
A 15-member delegation of the Myanmar Army led by Brig Gen Tin Muang Ohn arrived in the soils for the meeting yesterday.
The Indian Army delegation is led by Major General SS Pawar, Chief of Staff, 3 Corps.
The Myanmar delegation includes Brig Gen Ba La Aye and distinguished Army members.
Discussion on matters relating to security of border areas and measures required to be initiated to control insurgency in both countries are said to be the main issues during the meeting.
"It would be an endeavour of the two countries to resolve issues of concern of both the armies, upholding the principles of mutual trust and respect, which the two countries have long cherished," the PIB (DW) statement added.
Stating that the Indian Army and the Myanmar Army have a special relationship and comradeship which is an example in itself, the statement maintained that the meeting will further strengthen the friendly ties and cooperation between the two countries.
Source from the Army said that the Myanmar delegation will visit Headquarters, Eastern Command, Kolkata and Bodh Gaya from November 11 to November 13.The delegation will return to Myanmar on November 14 .
