Combined team seize opium, WY tablets

Imphal, August 07 2021:
A joint team of Imphal West police and Narcotic Cell arrested three persons including a woman along with 25.279 kg of opium (Kaani) from Malom Tulihal area along Tiddim road today.
According to reliable information and acting on specific information about the transportation of banned drug items along the Tiddim road, the joint team under the command of Inspector L Bikramjit OC Narcotic Cell and under the supervision of Imphal West SP Dr S Ibomcha carried out intensified frisking and checking drive at Malom Tulihal area, during which one Renault Duster (SUV) bearing Manipur registration number heading towards Imphal was stopped at around 3 pm, said police.
On checking, the team seized 26 plastic packets of opium from inside the vehicle weighing 25.279 kg.
Three persons coming in the said vehicle were arrested on spot by observing formalities.
They have been identified as Jangminlen Vaiphei (35) s/o (L) Thangtilal Vaiphei of Motbung Bazar, Kangpokpi; Mangsat Haokip (49) s/o (L) Thanglet Haokip of Motbung, Kangpokpi and Nemneilhing Touthang (32) w/o Jangthang Touthang of KS Lhangnom village, Kangpokpi.
The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Lamphel Police Station for legal proceedings under ND&PS Act.
In a separate incident, a combined team of Thoubal commando, Narcotic Cell Imphal East and volunteers of Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) arrested three youths along with 3,400 WY tablets from Lilong Arapti bridge this morning.
According to police, the combined team, as per information received about the illegal transportation of banned drug items in Lilong areas, under Thoubal SP H Jogeshchandra detained one Tata Safari Storm coming toward Arapti from Lilong side in a very suspicious manner.
On spot verification, the three persons coming in the vehicle were identified as Md Farish Khan (24) of Moijing Awang Kangjeibung; Washim Khan (24) of Lilong Sambrukhong and Md Yunush Ali (25) of Lilong Leihaokhong Makok, said police.
On checking, the team seized one black polythene containing 3,400 WY tablets from inside the vehicle and the driver as well as the companions of the vehicle were arrested.
The police also impounded the vehicle and three mobile phones on the spot by observing formalities.
The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Lilong police station.
