Crafts Fair organised on 'National Handlooms Day'

44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 22 Sect AR/IGAR(East) organised a one-day Crafts Fair to commemorate National Handloom Day at ward number 6, Tamenglong town.
The event kick-started amid much fanfare with a ribbon cutting and lamp lighting ceremony by Commandant of Tamenglong Battalion, said a statement of PIB Defence Wing.
The handicraft included in the fair were in the form of cloth embroidery, cane and bamboo, wood carving and artistic weaving.
On this occasion, young artisans were felicitated to encourage them.
The craft fair encouraged self-employment among artisans from the town and nearby villages to carry on with their craft work from their homes and financially support their family members in these challenging times of COVID-19 .
One of the objectives of the fair was to provide a central platform to these artisans to show their craftsmanship skills and identify prospective buyers for their products giving boost to 'Vocal for Local' initiative of the Government, it added.
Speaking on the occasion, Commandant 44 Assam Rifles highlighted the contribution of handloom to the socio-economic development of the country and urged the people of Tamenglong to become "vocal for local" in order to re-awaken demand and throw a lifeline to the local artisans and weavers who are struggling to survive amid pandemic restrictions by using Handloom and Handicraft as much as possible.
He further emphasized that the correct and positive approach always goes a long way in transforming distressing times into opportunities, adversities into triggers of development and progress.
Thus, supporting the 'Make in India' initiative of the Prime Minister.
