Imphal, August 07 2021:
While stating that sentiment of Tousem people has been hurt by the recent visit of officials of Jiribam district administration and CSOs to the highway areas under Tousem sub-division, Tousem Area Students' Organisation (TASO) has cautioned that any sort of unwelcome inspection in Tousem area will not be tolerated in the future.
In a release, TASO stated that tension over on the land and boundary issues between Tamenglong West (Tousem) sub-division and Jiribam district escalates every now and then due to unauthorised encroachment by Jiribam administration and civil organisations.
TASO had asked the state government several times to settle these issues once and for all but there has been no positive outcome, it said and reaffirmed that not even an inch of land of Tousem sub division will be surrendered to any district and will not tolerate any sort of fragmentation.
No forceful disintegration will be entertained as it will be detrimental to the peaceful and harmonious co-existence among the eight tribes inhabiting in Tousem Sub-division, it said.
TASO appealed to the government to immediately take action against the Jiribam CSOs and police personnel for their alleged unruly behaviour towards Tousem people.
If such incident occurs again, people of Tousem sub division will not tolerate and they should not bear responsibility for any unwanted consequences, it cautioned.
TASO said it respects the right of every people to have new district but never at the peril of Tousem sub-division.
They also urged the authorities concerned to initiate the process of establishing the Tousem police outpost, Excise gate and other necessities along its boundary within a short span of time.
