Imphal, March 24 2015:
NPF being a partner of the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre, there is a strong possibility of NPF and BJP contesting the Autonomous District Council election jointly.
On the other hand, the Government of India and NSCN-IM leadership have been reportedly working hard to strike a final deal to the protracted peace parleys by the end of the current year.
Even though the State Government is committed to hold the ADC election in time, some ADC Members elected from Naga dominated areas have been suggesting the Government to put off the election by sometime.
According to some ADC Members, no major militant group is likely to pose any objection to the ADC election unlike the previous one.
However, one major militant group currently under cease fire agreement with the Government of India is likely to impose all kinds of prohibitions against a particular political party as they think that the particular political party has been posing serious deterrence to achieving a solution to the protracted political
dialogue.
But the ADC members refused to name the particular political party in question.
After a gap of almost 20 years, election for the six ADCs was held in 2011 at the initiative of the then Congress-led SPF Government.
Many candidates who contested the election were subjected to different forms of violence and harassment by a particular militant group.
According to the ADC Members, both NSCN-IM leadership and Government of India are confident that a solution could be achieved to the protracted peace parleys by the end of the current year.
Any kind of violence at such a juncture when both the sides are exploring all possible solutions would prove to be a serious deterrent to the peace process, they added.
