Imphal, March 24 2015:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) staged a sit-in protest at the party office here on Tuesday demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur.
Talking to media on the sidelines of the protest, MPP president N Sovakiran informed that a memorandum will be submitted to the Governor to demand him to withdraw the controversial Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant workers Bill, 2015 (MRVT & MW Bill) .
He said the demonstration was organized by the party against the Bill which lacks stipulation that can safeguard the indigenous people.
The MPP chief accused the Government of India of mistreating the indigenous peoples of the North East by enforcing Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act and Article 19 (A) of the Constitution.
Sovakiran also attacked the Ibobi Government for allegedly keeping mum on various issues plaguing the State.
