State joins International Day of Yoga

The State AYUSH Society, Manipur and Manipur State Yoga Association (MSYA) celebrated International Day of Yoga at Khunthokhanbi community hall, Thangmeiband today.
Health Minister D Korungthang, Commissioner (Health, FW & AYUSH) PK Singh, Health Services Director Dr O Ibomcha, Family Welfare Services Director Dr K Rajo, AYUSH Director Dr K Lokendro and MSYA president O Buddhi graced the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
D Korungthang said that the aim of celebrating the day is to keep one's body physically fit and mentally and morally strong.
The Minister said that every citizen of the State has the responsibility of making Manipur a peaceful State.
He said that people must practise yoga to bring peace in mind and bury all the differences and misconceptions prevailing among the people of different communities.
D Korungthang said, "We are one and let's spread the message of peace, oneness and development through yoga" .
In his speech, Dr K Rajo said that yoga originated in India around 6000 years back.
Practise of yoga is a physical and mental exercise which can change one's behaviour, he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a proposal at the 69th UN General Assembly to celebrate June 21 as the International Yoga Day.
Dr K Lokendro said that the objective of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposal to the UN General Assembly was to make all aware of the benefits of yoga all over the world.
He said that Modi's idea was supported by 177 countries and unanimously declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014 .
Earlier in the morning at 7, the chief guest flagged off a yoga race.
Resource Centre for Social Welfare and Community Development (RC-SWACD), Manipur with the support of Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy successfully organised a one month Yoga training camp from May 21 at different locations of Langathel area, Thoubal district in the run up to the International Yoga Day.
According to a statement issued by Rev Hillary Langhu, secretary, RC-SWACD, Manipur, all the trainees joined the International Yoga Day observance today at Ibudhou Khongjom Ningthou Community hall, Langathel Maning Leikai, Thoubal district under the theme 'Yoga for harmony and peace.' Display of 'common yoga protocol' by about 300 yoga practitioners of different age groups and different walks of life who had attended the training camps marked the programme.
About 1500 people attended the programme today.
Thangso Baite, MP was the chief guest while S Budhi Singh, Member, Thoubal ZP was the functional president.
Puyam Sohodeva Singh, founder, Moirangthem Iboyaima Singh, Hawaibam Rajen Singh were the guests of honour.
MP Thangso Baite highlighted the benefits of Yoga on health and well being.
He said that Yoga is not only about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with oneself, the world and nature.
Other speakers also shared the importance of Yoga for individual and family health.
The day was also observed today at SS Devi Town Hall, Chingmeirong under the aegis of IOC's Imphal Divisional Retail Sales Office and the Patanjali Yog Samiti, Chingmeirong branch.
Manipur Medical Council Chairman Dr S Rajendro, retired Industries General Manager Y Manglem, retired Prosecution Director Ng Tejkumar and IOC Imphal Manager (Retail Sales) M Gaithaochung attended the gathering as presidium members.
As a part of the observation, around 40 yoga players demonstrated different yoga positions.
BJP Manipur Pradesh also observed the International Yoga Day at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president Ksh Bhabananda, former president Th Chaoba, former president M Bhorot and other prominent leaders of the party attended the observation.
Moreover, around 300 persons attended the International Yoga Day observation, conveyed a press release issued by BJP Manipur Pradesh secretary N Nimbus.
It further informed that the party's executive committee meeting scheduled on June 23 has been postponed until further notice.
The day was also observed at Manipur Central Jail, Imphal under the supervision of Superintendent Th Subhaschandra.
The Rural Development Association, Bamon Kampu Makha Leikai under the aegis of Central Council for Research on Yoga and Naturopathy also celebrated International Day of Yoga.
Yoga Training and Research Centre, Manipur and Dynamic Education Foundation also celebrated the day.
