'BJP must be defeated to restore peace in Manipur'

Imphal, August 16 2026: Samajwadi Party Manipur president Konthoujam Bishorjit today said peace in Manipur will not be restored as long as the BJP Government is in power, and that ousting the party is essential forbringing normalcy.

He was speaking at a function at his residence in Konthoujam Lairembi Leikai, where around 20 people from BJP and Congress joined SP.

Bishorjit urged the Government to immediately halt Census exercise without NRC.

"If census is conducted without NRC, Manipur will move towards destruction", he warned.

Condemning the recent killing of two Liangmai Naga civilians by armed Kuki groups, he said the present Government has failed to protect citizens.

He called on like-minded political parties to unite and defeat BJP .
