Imphal, June 21 2016:
Even as the State Government has already allotted 334 acres of land for establishment of National Sports University in the State, the Central Government is yet to table a requisite Bill in the Parliament.
A well placed source informed that the State Government acquired 334 acres at Yaithibi Loukon and handed it over to the Central Government although the Central Government asked for only 200 acres.
Repairing and renovation of rooms for opening offices of the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar have been already started at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex so that the university can commence its session at the sports complex temporarily until the university's proper buildings are constructed.
Notably, Rs 100 crore was incorporated in the Union Budget in 2014 for establishment of National Sports University in Manipur.
Even as certain cases are pending at Courts with regard to some portions of land acquired for the university, the State Government has been working to settle these cases as soon as possible.
Nonetheless, construction of the university's buildings can be started on the portions which are free from any contentions.
Taking serious note of the deadline of one month set by the Central Government recently regarding the area required for construction of the sports university, the State Government has been working to give a definite reply, added the source.
