Kangpokpi, June 21 2016:
Barely a few days after the 10 days economic blockade imposed on all the National Highways connecting the State to the rest of country was lifted, National Highway-2 has been cut off from about 4.30 pm after a confrontation broke out between womenfolk and personnel of 35 Assam Rifles at Hengbung, near Kangpokpi today.
The flash point came when the Assam Rifles personnel arrested four KNF cadres who were being used as body guards of the KNF president.
The KNF is a signatory to the SoO pact and its president accompanied by the four body guards was attending a function at Hengbung when the Assam Rifles personnel arrested the four.
This prompted the womenfolk of Sadar Hills to gather and proceed towards the Assam Rifles post.
Till the time of filing this report, the confrontation between the womenfolk and the Assam Rifles personnel was still on.
During the confrontation the womenfolk blocked NH-2 and threatened not to open the highway until all the four arrested KNF cadres are released.
Sources said that the AR personnel recovered three guns from the four body guards picked up today.
