Imphal, August 16 2026:
While vehemently condemning Kuki militants' attacks on Naga villages on August 14 which killed two persons and injured at least three, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has denounced the Government and its failure to curb violence and resolve the ongoing conflicts.
The killing of the two Liangmai Nagas came only some weeks after six men of the same community were found killed after being abducted on May 13, COCOMI said in a statement.
The attack also came only days after the Chief Minister's visit to Kangpokpi district aimed at restoring normalcy and peace, it said.
What has occurred in Kangpokpi is the complete opposite of the objectives of the CM's visit to the district which was touted as a visit to restore normalcy, peace and open the highways, it added.
It accused the Government of failing to take up measures to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
The State Government's inability to exercise its power and maintain law and order situation in more than three years is a clear sign of it being dictated by Delhi to effect its "proxy war" against indigenous communities.
Both the State and the Centre have also not come out openly denying this charge till today, COCOMI said.
For their inability to curb violence and end the prolonged conflicts, history will not judge "our elected leaders" fairly, COCOMI said.
When it is normal for a community to make demands to the Government, targeting and attacking another community to meet its demand is uncalled for and unacceptable.
The Governments must also see this, and not treat the ongoing crises as mere conflict born out of enemity between communities, COCOMI said.
