Even as former Minister Laishram Nandakumar expired at RIMS today due to post COVID-19 lungs complications, four more persons had fallen victim to the COVID-19 during the last 24 hours taking the total death toll to 301 .
Earlier L Nandakumar was found infected by COVID-19 but he tested negative on November 30 .
He was 86 .
Nandakumar, a resident of Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak, was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Uripok AC three times (2002-2017) and he also served as Minister of Law and Legislative Affairs, Education, Health and Labour at different points of time.
Before joining electoral politics, he served as a Senior Advocate of Gauhati High Court.
He also held the post of vice-chairman, All India Bar Council.
A team of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) went to Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak today and paid their last respect to Nandakumar by covering his mortal remains with the Congress flag.
Although the death toll has reached 301, the official figure stands at 299 as the deaths of an army Colonel and a 42-year old man from Imphal West, reported earlier, have not been taken into account.
In the last 24 hours, four persons aged 41 (female, Imphal West), 33 (male, Churachandpur), 60 (male, Imphal East) and 56 (male, Imphal East) expired at Raj Medicity and JNIMS.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 166 people including nine personnel of CAPF were tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours at JNIMS, RIMS, Imphal East, Imphal West, Maipakpi Hospital, Shija Hospital, Raj Medicity, Escent Diagnostics, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Senapati, Noney, Jiribam and Babina Diagnostics.
The 157 civilians who have been tested positive belong to Imphal West (47), Imphal East (64), Thoubal (7), Bishnupur (16), Kakching (4), Ukhrul (2), Tamenglong (3), Senapati (3), Churachandpur (3), Jiribam (3) and Noney (5) .
All of them are locals who do not have any significant travel history.
In the meantime, 210 COVID-19 positive people were discharged during the last 24 hours from home isolation (138), RIMS (10), JNIMS (2), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (17), CCC UNACCO (5), RD Wing (1), Kakching (6), Ukhrul (1), Raj Medicity (2), Bal Bhavan (4), Thoubal (5), Bishnupur (6), Moreh (6), Noney (1) and Jiribam (6) .
The total number of positive cases has reached 25,857 (general population 22,702 and Central security personnel 3,155) .
This figure includes 2,903 active cases (general population 2,665 and Central security personnel 238) and 22,655 discharged cases (general population 19,742 and Central security personnel 2,913) .
The recovery rate as on Saturday is 87.61 per cent.
Of all the people who were tested positive in Imphal West district today, 10 belong to Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak, eight to Elangbam Leikai, three to Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leirak and three to Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.
