Team visits Manipur-Nagaland boundary

Senapati, December 01 2019: A Ministerial team, led by Losii Dikho, PHED Minister, inspected the disputed area at Mai Hills, Tungjoy village, at Senapati district today, which is located at the border with Nagaland State.

CAF & PD, Revenue Minister Karam Shyam and Tribal Affairs & Hills Minister N Kayisii also accompanied Dikho during the visit.

The disputed area between Tungjoy village and Khezhakeno village of Phek district, Nagaland, is a long standing conflict over the traditional land ownership.

The locals of Tungjoy village informed the Ministerial team that there was a plan to celebrate Hornbill Festival at the disputed area of Tungjoy village which is located at the interstate boundary of Manipur and Nagaland.

The team held a joint interaction with the local villagers of Tungjoy village and officials from Nagaland today, to take stock of the ground situation and find amicable ways to negotiate the dispute and bring a peaceful solution.

Addressing the gathering, Losii Dikho assured that the Government will address the problems faced by the villagers and take up concrete measures for peaceful coexistence for both the neighbouring States.

Briefing media persons, Karam Shyam highlighted that there has been long standing conflict in demarcating boundaries between the two States since 1872 and there is a need to carry out proper survey.

A Committee meeting with Losii Dikho as chairman will soon be held to bring a negotiation between Nagaland and Manipur keeping in view the public interest, he assured.

Kayisii said that a Manipur Rifles outpost was set up in the village in 1991 .

He also stated that proper steps will be taken up to resolve the issue quickly after discussion with the Chief Minister and Committee recommendation.

The villagers of Tungjoy also appealed to the Ministers to undertake adequate measures for developing roads and converting the village to a tourist resort.

ADGP (AP/Ops) L Kailun, DC Senapati Somorjit Salam, SP M Pradip Singh, Nagaland officials, villagers and youth of Tungjoy village were present during the interaction.
