Imphal, February 27 2014 :
Even as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has directed the Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) last month to immediately effect the appointment of Dr M Amuba Singh as the Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, the Director has reportedly failed to comply with the Ministry's direction till date.
A well placed source informed that the Director of RIMS was intimated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India on January 23, 2014 (vide order No U 12025/09/2013/NE) directing him to immediately issue the appointment order of Prof Amuba Singh as the Medical Superintendent of the Institute.
Instead of complying with the Ministry's order, RIMS Director, Prof Sekharjit submitted two letters to the Ministry seeking deferment of appointing Prof Amuba Singh as the MS on the ground that his appointment as the MS would worsen acute shortage of post-graduate teachers in the department of Biochemistry, the source confided.
Prof M Amuba Singh is the Head of Biochemistry Dept of RIMS.
The post of Medical Superintendent in RIMS Hospital has been remaining vacant for almost three years since March 1, 2011 .
The missive of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (NE Section) directed the RIMS Director to effect the appointment of Dr M Amuba as the MS as per the approval of the Chairman of the Executive Council of the Institute after the Selection Committee placed its recommendation before the Chairman.
It has also been learnt that three candidates among the four applicants had appeared in the interview for appointment as regular MS in RIMS which was held on Dec 24 last year at Nirman Bhavan, New Delhi.
Apart from Prof M Amuba, the other two candidates for the post are Dr L Ranjit Singh, Professor in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dept and Dr N Damayanti Devi, Professor and Head of Anatomy Dept.
Incidentally, Dr N Damayanti, who is the chairperson and adviser of many important committees in RIMS including Hospital Development Committee, is the wife of RIMS Director, Prof Sekharjit.
