Imphal, February 27 2014 :
The Election Commission of India (ECI), referring to the case of deletion of Thanlon AC MLA Vungzagin Valte's name from the electoral roll, has directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur to fix responsibility for the serious lapse and to take up action against the delinquent officer/ERO.
A letter sent by ECI Secretary Anuj Jaipuriar also asked the CEO to intimate the ECI about actions taken on the matter.
Earlier on January 20, MLA Vungzagin and ADC Churachandpur Member H Mangchinkhup filed a complaint with the CEO saying that their names have been deleted from the electoral roll after the Special Summary Revision 2014 which was published on January 6 .
They appealed to the CEO to correct all the mistakes in the electoral revision and take appropriate action against the responsible officers.
Acting on the complaint the Joint CEO wrote to Vungzagin Valte and Mangchinkhup to authenticate signatures appearing against their names in the electoral roll as existed prior to the special summary revision.
Vungzagin Valte and H Mangchinkhup submitted a representation on February 7 stating that the signatures which appeared against their names were forged ones and nobody approached them an their family members on the matter.
They also asserted that their names were deleted not out of mistake but with malafide intentions.
In the meantime, the Assistant CEO directed the District Election Officer/DC Churachandpur to enquire into the matter thoroughly and submit a report at the earliest.
Subsequently, the matter was taken to the ECI and hence its instruction to the CEO.
