Manisana's murder: One accused arrested, another identified

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also in-charge of Home Department, has said that an accused in the murder of Vice-President of Manipur People's Party (MPP) Haobijam Manisana has been arrested while another accused has been identified by the police.
He was replying to the calling attention motion raised by MLA Dr I Ibohalbi during the fourth sitting of 7th Session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
Dr Ibohalobi said that Vice-President of MPP Haobijam Manisana was murdered by some car-borne armed assailants in broad daylight at Changangei along the high security Tiddim Airport Road on November 13 last year.
Moreover, MLA of Andro A/C Th Shyamkumar was targeted by some gunmen at Koirengei recently raising serious doubts on the security of civilians in the State, he noted.
The MLA also urged the Home Minister to take up effective security measures for the people in the State.
Responding to the calling attention motion, Deputy CM Gaikhangam said that the murder of Manisana was very unfortunate.
The police are closely investigating the case.
So far, an accused identified as Y Mani alias Nanao alias Telheiba, s/o Kumar has been arrested by police, while another accused Binodo has been identified.
The police are in search for the second accused in Manisana's murder, he noted.
Gaikhangam further stated that the police were providing security to deceased MPP Vice-President Manisana following report of threat.
He used to inform the police prior to his visits and tours.
But on that fateful day, Manisana did not inform the police.
So, the police did not provide security cover to him.
The State Government is working on to expedite the investigation and provide befitting ex-gratia to the family members of the deceased MPP leader, Dy CM assured.
He also said that the Home Department has been providing adequate security to Ministers, MLAs and officers of State Government.
A large number of State security personnel have been deployed only for VIP security.
Additional escorts are also being provided to MLAs during their official tours and programmes beyond Greater Imphal, Gaikhangam noted.
Clarifying on the recent attack on MLA Shyamkumar, Dy CM said that a thorough investigation has been done.
The two car-borne persons turned out to be Soson Vaiphei and Lalboi Haokip from Leimakhong Village.
The incident happened when the two persons tried to overtake the MLA's escort party.
They sped up their car and drove towards Leimakhong Army Cantonment after the security escorts chased them.
The tires of their car were also hit by bullets.
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip and MLA Manga Vaiphei also came to settle the issue, he added.
