Imphal, February 27 2014 :
Riding on fine half centuries from Tejkumar who milked the bowlers of PCC to score 81 runs off 56 balls and a fine 53 runs off 60 balls from Nongdren, Model Club notched up a total of 247 runs for 9 in 35 overs to down PCC by 133 runs in the 1st Plate Cricket Tournament played today.
On winning the toss, Model Club opted to bat first and this paid off as the batsmen capitalised on a placid wicket with Tejkumar leading the way in racing to 86 runs off 56 balls, gathering runs on either side of the wicket.
Finding the gaps and despatching all the loose balls that came his way, Tejkumar dominated the bowlers of PCC.
Complementing Tejkumar was Nongdren who compiled a fine 53 runs off 60 balls followed by Ajit who came out with a knock of 25 runs off 28 balls to take the tally of his team to 247 runs.
For Model Club, Saikhomba led the way with a marvellous haul of 5 wickets, but with the other bowlers unable to keep a tight line and length was unable to capitalise on the fine showing of Saikhomba.
Mangi, Boris and Iboyaima chipped in with one wicket each but conceded too many runs.
Set a formidable target of 248, the batsmen of PCC were never in the run chase with Santosh emerging the top scorer with 32 balls off 51 balls.
With the bowlers of Model Club keeping a tight line and length and managing to extract bounce and swing from the pitch, the batsmen of PCC were regularly sent back to the pavilion.
Rohit came up with a fine bowling display with three wickets followed by Ranjan who bagged two wickets and Jobanta with one wicket.
With the exception of Santosh none of the other batsmen of PCC could come up with a big knock with Rohit scoring a painstaking 29 runs off 46 balls and Ranjan 19 runs off 26 balls to fold up for a mere 114 in 31.2 overs.
Apart from compiling a mammoth 247 runs, Model Club did well in keeping a tight field, not yielding boundaries to the big hitters of PCC.
Despite being on the losing side, Saikhomba of PCC walked away with the man of the match award for his spectacular haul of 5 wickets.
