Imphal, February 27 2014 :
The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has today denounced the CM's statement in the Assembly that the Govt is considering raising the upper age limit of candidates of State civil service exam and other departmental recruitment from the present 30 to 35 years while demanding that the upper age limit be raised to 40 for General and 45 for ST and other candidates as a permanent measure.
Speaking to reporters today at its office located at Nagaram, Publicity and Information secretary of Tombing led ATSUM, Micah Kamei while lauding the assurance of the Chief Minister said that only the assurance would not fulfil the aspiration of the aspiring candidates and ATSUM would not rest the case with the assurance.
The upper age limit of candidates for MPSC civil service exams was already raised from 30 to 35 years as a one time measure, Micah pointed out while urging the CM to raise the upper age limit to 40 years for General candidates and 45 for ST and other candidates on permanent basis.
He said that the demand for increasing the upper age limit to 40 is substantive in the light of rapid increase in the number of educated unemployed youth and minimal chance of youth getting jobs in private sector establishments in the State.
Besides, the MPSC does not conduct the State civil service every year unlike the UPSC.
As such, it would be fair to give chance to aspiring candidates who fail to crack the exam once or twice by extending the upper age limit, Micah Kamei said.
He also cited that the upper age limit for civil service in other States is 40 years.
ATSUM has also earlier submitted a memorandum to the concerned authorities in this regard.
