The presentation ceremony of the Governor's Award 2004 and RK Sanatombi Award 2004 was held at Asha Cinema Complex today with Governor Dr SS Sidhu and Dr N Bijoy Singh, VCMU as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the function Governor S Sidhu stressed on the importance of vocational education in developing the human, resources of a Nation.
Asserting that the present education system is very narrow and lays emphasis only on examinations and degrees, the Governor said that the education system should also keep pace with the changing times and help in developing the society in particular and the Nation in general.
The Governor also donated a sum of Rs 10,000 to the Managing Committee.
The prestigious awards were presented to eleven persons who had excelled in various fields.
The awardees are Md Mujibur Rahman of Sainik School (Topper class X CBSE for Manipur), Debina Longjam of Little Flower School (Topper HSLC 2004), Chongtham Jina Devi of Mayang Imphal (Judo), Th Nongthanglembi Chanu of Top Khongnangkhong (Arm Wrestling), Huidrom InaoDevi of Kakwa (Weightlifting), Yanglem Sunita Devi of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai (cycling), MC Mary Kom of Kangathei (Boxing), Laishram Gulapi Singh of Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai (Best traffic police) and Ningthoujam Diana Devi of Wahengbam Leikai for her achievements in the field of dance, sports and painting despite being physically challenged.
